(Further work on) Pissarro’s dream… or… When Camille Pissarro the Impressionist painter and anarchist met Diogenes of Sinope the performance artist and Cynic philosopher…

Pissarro and Diogenes

This is the progress I have made so far all on the same bit of canvas part of which I cut off and burned since it did not contribute anything to the idea I had in mind… so, it’s a 24 x 24″ oil painting on cotton canvas begun in March and (hopefully) completed in April (which is almost upon us!) For me it represents a meeting of two great minds, two fascinating historical personages, one from the ancient Greek world, the other from 19th century France, and it’s set against a 20th-21st century cityscape (could be any modern city – they all look the same!)
