Oil on canvas panel, approx 12 x 8″, April 28 2017
This is a very quickly done open-air study… I wanted to satisfy myself as to the colour of the Gorse flowers. Unfortunately it’s extremely hard to get an overview because the bushes (if that’s what they are) grow very high… some must be 12′ at least… and then they tend to fall over… So anyway I got down in amongst them and it turns out that yes there are two quite distinct yellows… one is a beautiful lemony yellow through and through; the other is a sort-of orangey yellow (thinks: maybe I should title this study ‘oranges and lemons’…?)
