Village

Stone tree

Oil on canvas, 24 x 20″, August 13 2017

This is my painting “Stone wall sculpture” but turned upside down. It seems to work much better that way. Compositionally it’s much more unstable yet aesthetically it’s much more satisfying! The view is now one of a village seen over and beyond two large gable-end walls. The one on the right even has a chimney stack with smoke coming out. The element that previously signified a stone wall now signifies a collection of stone cottages beneath a mountain, or beneath storm clouds.
