oil paint thinned with turpentine on canvas, 40 x 22″, begun after some thought today July 19 2018
Always love this early formative stage; and always reluctant to lose it! It seems somehow sufficient. Rough marks; approximations of colour; scribbles and dribbles of paint freely applied… this stage is just about covering the white canvas and leaving it to dry somewhat – and meditating on it all the while… too much paint, thick heavy impasto applied everywhere is destructive of colour and light… the naked white and lightly / loosely underpainted canvas ought always to show through in the finished piece…
peter robinson, thanks so much for the post.Really thank you! Great.
Well, thank you Anonymous, whoever you are… pity I don’t know that, but thank you anyway!
