[2] oil painting on canvas, 30 x 22″, Sept 4-5 2018
The thing that caught my eye here were the vivid colours. The sun was setting over in the west but that didn’t interest me. It was the view to the north in which the reddish golden raking sunset light was illuminating the hills (where the spruce has just been harvested) – including a skinny ash tree – and the mountain beyond. I prefer the detail [1]. It’s very hard to paint a subject like this without it ending up looking amateurish! I should really now go and splash a load of paint over this with the biggest brushes I can find and see what happens. But then it might all go completely wrong!
