oil on canvas, 24 x 18″, Sept 6 2018
Had to have another shot at this and think what I’ve done an improvement. As I said before it’s a very difficult subject. The colour is very intense. The entire ambience is… umm… well, Claude Monet would understand I’m sure… I’m thinking of his serial paintings of haystacks and Rouen cathedral etc. This view is looking northwards from the decimated spruce forest towards some of the foothills and peaks of the Iron mountain (Slieve Anierin) range. The sun was setting in the west, its rays casting a golden rose hue over everything they touched. The image is a bit blurred due to my trembling hands.
