oil on canvas, 24 x 18″, Oct 11 2018
I love these trees esp at this time of year with their blue trunks and orange foliage. There’s a long line of them on the embankment above the road by lough Meelagh near Kilronan Castle (that’s Kilronan mountain in the painting background left)… the lough (lake) is behind me. I know the place well, and took a load of photos, and this painting is very loosely based on the photos… but is not in the least bit photographic… and my feelings about the view, of course. Painted in flat patches of colour, no attempt at modelling forms… it’s all about colour, and letting colour do the work.
