Very rapid underpainting, 3-4 minutes, just going for pictorial unity… and I think the subject demands speed… so at each stage I psyche myself into a state of readiness and then attack without thought so far as that is possible… This is done in turps rich oil paint on a 32 x 28″ canvas, Jan 3 2018
This image might also be interpreted as an image of an artist painter, maybe Van Gogh himself even, painting a large mural of himself, a self-portrait, say of himself on a road that leads nowhere? Just a thought.
