Very small stand of tall Scots pines

scots pine stand

Watercolour on A4 watercolour paper, Mar 30 2019

Love and adore Scots pines [Pinus sylvestris] unfortunately there are not enough of them planted around here. In my (perhaps somewhat perverse) view they are the one species of tree that aesthetics / appearance-wise look better the more wind and storm damage they suffer. And they seem able to endure much suffering with great tree-courage and without complaint. Although they can be heard murmuring and cracking when a wild wind whips through their branches.

Apr 18 2019 Shock horror! Drove past this place today and see that all but three of these beautiful pines have been cut down!!! An act of vandalism. There was no need to cut down perfectly healthy trees. Damned shame.
