The image is so striking (just as it is) that any further or excessive labours might ruin it! It has a sort-of painterly freshness that I like. A spontaneity. At the end of the day I am a painter not an illustrator.
The image also functions as a kind of mirror; one in which the viewer may look into the recesses of his or her own soul.
Cadmium red (genuine) is a powerful colour! Combined with burnt sienna, titanium white, and mars black.
