The upper print, a personification of painting, is a hand drawn tracing after a digital image of an artwork by Renaissance painter Salvator Rosa.
The centre print is also a hand drawn tracing after a digital image of celebrated Japanese porn star and model Hitomi Tanaka.
Finally, the lower print is a hand drawn tracing after a digital image of a sculpture by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles. The model for Praxiteles’ 2500 year old sculpture of Aphrodite was a very famous and wealthy porn star in her day, known as Phryne.
So, I am looking to create some sort of allegory of painting that deals with notions of time, of change, of taste, of beauty, of moral values.
This work is in a very early stage developmentally.
