Lol ! I do believe it is ! The modern world, John, a world in which pornification rules, so it seems. There was none of this when I was a kid growing up in the shadow of Queen Victoria, the war, and stoic austerity. We were deprived ! Now it’s everywhere ! Do you remember Macmillan’s BS words in the 1960’s, “You’ve never had it so good !” Bollocks is what I say. No wonder I’m so cynical now !

Yes, the stone age… they were into making little stone statuettes of Venus way back when… but the world has changed, certainly technology-wise. As for Victor Meldrew… well he’s surely the archetypal grumpy old man that you can’t help but laugh at… but he was on the telly a good while back, way before the Internet and mobile phones. I found Rising Damp and Leonard Rossiter very funny TV viewing but now I never watch television at all, haven’t done for years!.
